I review the first of two volumes in The Sutra of Pale Leaves Call of Cthulhu campaign from Sons of the Singularity and Chaosium Inc. Twins Suns Rising is set in Japan during the mid to late 1980s and reimagines The King in Yellow.

Summary

I really dig the reinvention of the King in Yellow or, in this case, the Pale Prince in this first volume of The Sutra of Pale Leaves. The first two adventures are very well done too. I don't care much for the fact the investigators will no doubt find out too late the Sutra has provided the big bad the ability to plant itself in the PCs minds. Plus the Pale Prince can eventually get to the point where the investigators are puppets for him to command, which I think will irritate some. I do recommend the book but I'm probably not the right sort of Keeper to get the most out of the campaign. Or at least this first part.
